Jerry's Biography
Jerry Springer was born in London 1944, during the second world
war, as his family fled from the Holocaust. At age 5 he and his
family emigrated to New York City. Jerry is dedicated to upholding
the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution. He fights for this
cause as his family knows first
hand what it is like to have them denied.
Jerry earned a bachelor of arts degree in politcal science from
Tulane University followed by a law degree in 1968 from Northwestern
University. His first job was working as an aid for Senator
Robert F. Kennedy's presidental campaign. After Kenny's assasination
he joined a law firm and spearheaded the effort to lower the
voting age from 21 to 18.
He was elected Cincinnati's Council-at-large in 1971 and served
5 sucessive terms. 6 years later he was elected Mayor of Cincinnati
by the largest plurality in the city's history. He was one of
the younger majors in the country being aged 33.
Five years later, Jerry started his broadcasting career as a
political reporter and commentator on Cincinnati's WLWT-TV. he
begame anchor and managing editor in 1984 until January 1993
when he left. During this time Jerry picked up no less then 7
Emmy Awards.
In 1991 Jerry was offered his own talk show. The Jerry Springer
Show, a daily, one hour talk show, first aired on September 30,
1991. The show has now been shown to 40-plus foreign countries.
The show begame the most popular day time TV show and even beat
Opera Winfrey.
